Ten Years Old

Most of the things we know, we learned from someone else. Most of us have very few truly original ideas. We creatively implement other’s ideas. Most of the time, when we hear a new thought that rings true and is applicable, we start to own it and then we forget who gave us the original gift: Someone else!

So here is a thought that came from someone else (and sadly, I don’t recall who said this, or I would give them their due credit right here!) What did you love doing when you were 10 years old? Now stop and really think about that for a minute. Really loved doing!

When I was 10, in the back of my mother’s magazines were various line drawings of architectural plans for homes. Black lines on white paper. I would look at those plans for hours, designing and redesigning rooms in my head. Combining colors and patterns on various pieces of fictional furniture and yet uncreated window treatments. I could look at black lines on white paper and see, really see, the flow of the kitchen into the living area, the windows and their different treatments and their view into the yard, the banister on the open staircase, arranging and rearranging furniture in my mind, a loveseat lingering close to the fireplace, now a sectional opening the room up for guests, and on and on. That is what I loved doing.

So, what did you love doing when you were 10 years old? My suggestion: Do just that! Do what you were made to do!

If you can, find a career (earning money) doing just that or something related to just that

If you can, learn more about that from a blog or in a class or a podcast or with a mentor…

If you can, do that for your friends for free…

If you can, volunteer and do that

If you can, create a hobby and do THAT

I am predicting your life will feel richer, you will be happier, more fulfilled!

I love my job! I am happy and fulfilled here because all day long, I help people with design ideas to make their homes just perfect for them. Thank you to whoever posed that question to me: What did you love when you were 10 years old?

Think about it! Try it!

For now,

Adrianne
